Hi, I want to start a reef tank. A friend of mine gave me some live rock that had been dried up for 2 years and some sands (also dried up). He broke down his tank and kept these in the buckets. Can these be reused? Can I get some truly live rocks and sands and mix these in to "revive" these dead rocks and sands? Thanks for your help. Demifelix

Live rock/Live sand ||| and a filter question Hello, I have been searching old forum questions by title for a little while and haven't been able to find what I am looking for. I know I should be aiming for about 1.5lbs of live rock per gallon, but if I intend to include live sand do I still need 1.5lbs/gal? I was also wondering about filtration systems. If I have an overflow with a ...

I have a 55. You have plenty of sand. Get some live rock, and a good skimmer. You don't need any extra filtration, unless you just want it for water movement. I also don't think you need a sump for a 55. For a tank this size a good skimmer is enough, and keep up with water changes. Those two things are where I'd spend my money.I would definitely get rid of that canister filter. They are a pain to...
