The DiabetesHealth magazine featured an article on the study done by South African University pharmacologist, Dr. Peter Owira, who found that rats with T2 had dangerously high level of lactic acid when fed with grapefruit juice together with metformin. Lactic acidosis is a condition in which lactic acid level became elevated to a dangerous and potentially life-threatening level. Symptoms of ...

Before all that however, some basic physiology: Lactate accumulation is usually the result of action of the anaerobic-glycolytic energy system. Now, this on its own is a bit misleading, because the body is ...

I've been a recreational runner for years (done a few half marathons and things), but i recently signed up for a marathon and I've stepped up the training considerably. It's going well and I'm really enjoying it but i've started to get a sort of achey stiffness in my ankles which takes a good 2-3 miles to shake off each time i run, sometimes even longer. So I end up half hobbling the first few...

You only build up lactic acid once you cross your anaerobic threshhold...so unless you're planning + on doing intensive training, like really long runs or very intensive weight lifting, you will be fine. I was an athlete in college and we were tested for LA quite a bit (getting stabbed with needles after a brutal workout is really no fun) and the only times mine got really high were when we ...

As far as the lactic acid goes, he has me flex the muscle, saying this flushes out a significant portion of the lactic acid. It seems to work. As far as not working me out hard enough, I do have a stent in the main artery of my heart. He requested an okay from my doctor to engage me in a strenuous weight training routine (which I've actually done all along), but of course the doctor hasn't ...
