We are installing a kitchen backsplash next week and are torn between three tile choices. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Below is a picture of our kitchen - the wall is a light olive, cabinets -honey maple, granite -black, grey & white flecked. I also attached a pictures of three tiles. One is a off white ceramic/ glass subway tile. The second option is mixed slate mosaic. The ...

Just pulled up the tile I put down years ago in the Kitchen. Before there was the vinyl tile it was a linoleum cover which had been put down with a tar substance. How do I get the tar up, I need to put down ceramic tile and I know the thin set will not stick to the tar.

First, thanks for a great forum! I am looking to prep my kitchen floor for ceramic tile. I have already used the deflection calculator and I am at .239 inches. Jump test feels very solid with no shaking from china cabinet in the next room. My home is on heat or A/C all year, including the area under the kitchen, which is finished. I have diagonally applied 7" T&G plank as my subfloor ...

I just put up my kitchen backsplash tile but just realized the tile is covering part of the outlets. The metal prongs at the very top and very bottom of the outlet are underneath the new tile. Does anyone have suggestions about what I should do? Can I trim the tile while it's still on the wall? Do I have to rip the tile off? Should I try to cut off the metal part of the outlet?

I've been watching too much HGTV so I'm a little worried. We just bought a condo and we are redoing the kitchen. I did the demo and now I'm down to the bare concrete, but it's not quite level. There are patches were it's off by 1/8 to 1/4 inches. The concrete is in good condition with no cracks and is 28 years old and it's 140 sq/ft. Can I just fix this with thinset alone? Should I level it with ...

Hey guys. Never really laid any tile before, and now have my gutted kitchen infront of me. Now, I've sold tile. Worked ten years at Lowes in the flooring section selling tile, hardwood, etc. I can answer any product questions you might have anything they sell, but as far as actually doing it, my experience is limited to displays and the basics in the weekly How to classes. Okay, so first, my ...

Kirk, The best $25 you'll ever spend would be for a program called Precision Tile from Laurel Creek Software. You can enter all the dimensions of your floor, the tile size the grout joint width, the layout and then you can "move" it around to see where the cuts are going to end up. It really helps visualize and allows you to plan your cut tiles. Brian...

Thanks to all for your nice comments! Starpooh, I'd be happy to, I'll look over your list! Bunnicula03, we did switch the doors out. I mentioned it on the blog, but it was very affordable. I highly recommend it as an option if people need better molding on a budget! We love the marble. It's everything I thought it would be, etches and all. In fact, I love the etching. It's really ...

If you center your design on the sink, and used a full tile in the middle as your starting point, you'd have to trim some of the tile surrounding your diagonal section a little next to the cabinets. I'm thinking so little that you won't see it, because the diagonals will catch your eye. The same may be true under the cabinets, if you started at the countertop with full border...

Thanks CX. Yeah, I'm sure that there is nothing else under the linoleum. So what you're saying is I can use the 317 between the linoleum and cbu and then a modified thinset to set the tile on the cbu, is that right? Any preference between wonderboard or hardi? seth __________________ seth
