I used to drive an NPR. Mine was a 2000 (I think) with the 4.7L turbo 4cyl. They also made a 5.2L turbo 4cyl. I seriously doubt you could shoehorn that into the Troopers engine bay, and if you did, you would have to seriously rework the front suspension as they are HEAVY bastards. I've delivered quite a few of those engines (as well as International DT466 motors). The 5.2L is at least...

I've heard of people taking 3.9L cummins and GM trannys out of grummund ,(like Frito Lay trucks) vans and putting them in half ton pickups and getting mid twenties for mileage. My aunt and uncle used to run Isuzu pups with diesels and get around 40 MPG and 250,000 plus miles on them......although they were pretty gutless.
