Hi all... I never post, but I need to tonight. I recently went in for my yearly pap and since I am now 30, they tested for HPV. My pap came back normal, but was positive for HPV type 16. So I went in yesterday for a colposcopy where the doc found 2 areas that she did a biopsy on. She is sending those samples off to the lab and I should know in a week or so if the cells are cancerous ...

I had HPV. Not really sure what type 16 is. They told me mine was moderate to severe. I had to have a few LEEP procedures to get it taken care of.It caused a lot of scar tissue and they think that is why I went into early labor with my daughter, never had any probs with my son though. my daughter, who is now 19, was given the HPV vaccination about 3 yrs ago by her pediatrician. She recently went to get a Pap for the first time and the result was an abnormal pap. She is scheduled for a colposcopy procedure next week.. My question is.. I thought the HPV vaccine prevented the virus resulting in an abnormal pap? What was the point of receiving this vaccination? Please advise...

Replying to: colposcopy & HPV I tested positive for HPV after an abnormal pap... My result was due to HPV.. Not all abnormal paps or dysplastic cells are caused by HPV..
