There are several people inquiring about how to overclock their Q6600's right now, so I though we could join all of those discussions into one big thread so that everyone could benefit, and also make it easier on those of us giving the help. If you have a Q9000 series cpu, you will NOT be able to overclock using the stock motherboard, sorry. This guide is intended for all E8400/8500 and Q6600 ...

I have been only using CCC at overclocking my 4830/4850 cards Basically i see these go up to 700 and then for some weird reason CCC puts it on 690 on the core While it does not give any core errors even under full load, the temps stay very nice at 65 to 70 max on the shaders the cores don't reach 66 The memory was set at 1190 but i set it a tad back since i did not see any performance ...

I just ordered my i7-860 and Gigabyte P55-UD3R with a nice air cooler. I don't want to aggressively OC but just want to get some more bang for my buck. I am upgrading from a Athlon X2 so it has been awhile. Can someone give me the basic BIOS steps I need to tweak ? Thanks so much. Go Anandtech !! Edited: 10/20/2009 at 09:20 AM by ...

If you are you should reset your bios to defaults if you haven't already. Hey! No thread hijacking! You already have your own thread. Hey Gurst, you're bound to find something useful when you google 'phenom 2 940 overclock' or something of the like.

The performance gain you will get by overclocking a cheap pre-built pc is not even worth the hassle, and this is if you get lucky enough to unlock the Bios. Next time you are shopping for a PC, build your own like the rodney suggested =)

yes and yes. Play around see what works best. You can try by playing with just your fsb first and then when you see how that performs try raising your multiplier. Or you can do it the other way around, it's just easier to test when you are not changing multiple options at the same time.

If you mean CPU's, the 965 and 955 is basically the same chip, except one runs at a higher default clock than the other. This may mean the 965 can reach higher overclocks than the 955, but it's not guaranteed. Also, you might want to ensure that you get a C3 stepping chip, as they have been proven to be more stable at higher clocks. If you mean motherboards, then the best one to choose are ...

The max multiplier on the Q9550 is 8.5, so ... 3200 MHz / 8.5 = ~ 375 MHz FSB The FSB on the P45 chipset supports 1600 MHz (400 quad-pumped), so reaching 375 MHz shouldn't be too hard. We're running our Q9550 with an FSB = 400 MHz Bus Speed x 8.5 = 3.4 GHz rated FSB (using CPU-Z nomenclature). You don't need an expensive HSF: just get rid of the stupid push pins and replace them with an ...

I don't think anyone here is going to walk you through it step by step but if you have specific questions someone might answer them for you. There are beginner overclocking guides here and other places. Google your cpu with the word overclocking behind it and see what turns up. Most likely there is an article about it floating around somewhere already. Once you have a basic idea what is going ...
