I'm considering applying Brownell's gun kote to a Kahr k40 stainless. When they say dissasemble does this mean fieldstrip or completely dissasemble, ie. firing pin, springs etc.? Anyone have any personal experience. Can it safely be baked on in gas oven?

Proper preparation is 75% of the job. The parts must be abrasive blasted, cleaned several times and absolutely oil free. Even the oil from your fingers can mess up the final finish. Yes, you can mask off areas that you don't want to coat but you have to 100% disassemble it for the abrasive blasting part of the job. For masking, you should use a heat proof tape. The stuff that I use isn't really ...

I've heard complaints about some of the Kahr k40 pistols rusting. I'm going to use it for ccw. I'm considering applying Brownell's Gun Kote first, but have some questions. Is it absolutely nescessary to completely dissasemble firearm, ie. firing pin, extractor etc. or just fieldstrip. Also is it safe to bake finish on with gas oven?

If you insists doing it in a regular kitchen oven, make sure your oven has a high temp cleaning cycle you can run afterward. Otherwise your wife's Christmas cookies will taste off, plus health concerns from the amine hardener etc. Also, make sure you use an accurate oven thermometer, just the setting is NOT a good indicator for what temperature you're reaching. The final performance of epoxy ...

I finished a combat/fighter today . D-2 steel and black green micarta handle . The handle is secured with Corby bolts as well as the slow cure epoxy . Now as an after thought , maybe too late . It would be real nice to put a matt grey oven bake coat on the blade .Has anyone done this with a complete blade without damage to the handle ? Also they sell an insulating tape rated at 400 degree's ...

anyone tried this? i have a couple of neglected guns that will see field/all weather use, and they are already in the 80% range on the blue. lots of wear on edges, scratches, and some pitting. neither is worth over 500$ and am not worried about resale. i am deciding between GUN-KOTE™ OVEN CURE, GUN FINISH and OXPHO-BLUE® with the light pits and scratches im doubtful cold blue will ...

Does Gun-Kote contain lead? Lead-Based Paint Ban In 1978, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission lowered the legal lead content in most paint to 0.06% (a trace amount). It banned paint or any other similar surface coating that containt more than 0.06% lead (lead containing paint). It also covers toys or other items intended for use by children and associated furniture.

(in the oven?) Any other info about I should know. O'yea if you have pic.s I would be interested in seeing them. Thanks, Carter262

KG Gun Kote is great stuff. It's a thin hard coat and won't look like a paint job (Duracoat is made by Sherwin Williams) but remember Gun Kote has to be oven cured and DuraCoat is air cured.
