Hi, I bought a used kiln about 5 years ago. I have used it at least 50 times with no problems. I had a large order due by Saturday so I have been busy getting everything finished. I fired the greenware no problem. A day later fired the glazed pieces, kiln was full. Went to get them out they all looked like melted snowmen. Completely destroyed all of the stilts that they were sitting on. Melted ...

Hello... I built a cone 10 stoneware Chiminea over the summer and have been drying it out to fire.  It is still greenware, and I plan to fire it reduction.  I would like to fire it past cone 08 to vitrify it, but I am curious if you would recommend firing it higher.  When completed it will be installed in a yard here on the coast of Northern California, which can be wet and cold but never much ...

Dear Ti, I just read your response to Chris (10/19/2008). He wanted to make a cone 9 crater glaze similar to those made by Lucie Rie. I have a couple of questions. 1) Do you apply both slip and glaze to greenware? or to bisque ware? or do you apply the slip to greenware, and bisque fire it before applying the glaze? 2) Will the slip alone produce a frothy unglazed surface? 3) I fire to cone 6...

Answer If this is a new problem, first analyse what changes to ANY process have been made, its got to be a recent alteration to what you were doing when there was no problem. Find some old underglaze(paint is the wrong word, unless ...
