I have a chance to purchase a new 2008 Trance X0 frame. Is there a difference in the ride or feel of the Fox RP23 on the 08 and 09 model year Trance X's? According to Fox, in 2009 they enhanced the mid-travel damping. Did this make a big difference in the ride of the 2009 Trance X or did it ride the same as the previous year? I also recognize that the 2010 RP23 has a new Boost Valve tech, but...

Thanks for the heads-up about the Float R. I had also read that the Float R is built with a compression circuit with a Propedal-like feel. I do want the option of being able to switch to a fully open, active circuit. Therefore, the RP23is the best for me. I will most likely leave it open for general trail riding as it is quite rocky and steep here. But we also have a number of fire roads and...

I've seen quite a few threads on the cable rub issue, after discovering the problem on my bike (2008 Trance X2) after only a few rides, I came up with a cheaper answer to nugj's post: Quote: In fact, some clear poly tubing (probably a Home Depot or Lowes kinda' thing) just slightly larger in inside diameter than the outside diameter of the hose would keep any ...

Quote: Could you not have achieved the same effect by not doing the zip tie up so tight in the first place? Good question. Possibly, however, the tab that Giant molds into the linkage to attach to has pretty sharp edges, thus the problem. I am not sure that if I just used a looser tie, or, as in some solutions I've seen, eliminated it ...

Dave ALL fox shocks use 1/2" DU bushes. RS use both 1/2" and 12mm depending on where it was made. "Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail." Parktools SheldonBrown

I went from a HT to a Giant Trance X (5" travel f/r). The hardtail was ~28lbs, and the stock X0 was 27 lbs. From there I WW'd it to 22.8 lbs. I can say that the descending is much easier on my TX, it's almost "point and shoot". While I had to pick my lines carefully with my HT, I would just crash through it with my FS. On the climbs, I feel (with propedal) that my back wheel doesn't hop...

I think the stumpy comp is a great bike.....but for me I would have to say check out a Giant Trance X3 or X2. But these are more geared towards XC end of the spectrum. Someone with more trail time on the Trance X will have to chime in to say if it can handle the 4' drops.....but it should handle whatever the Stumpy comp would. If the 5" wont suffice, you will probably have to step up ...

@ Fabien68 : oh l'autre !
