Ok just had a fun ride in my 1973 fj40. My front wheel studs sheered off while I was driving down the road. My tire went flying, I am always carerful to torque them to 75lb ft. What would cause them to sheer and am i using the incorrect specs? Is there a better wheel stud to use. Dont want this to happen again. Please respond to rjmcastle@aol.com with any help. thanks

I was wondering if there is any difference in the depth of the front heater box on the FJ40s. I have a SM420 install in my 1968 FJ40 and the exiting front heater box was removed to clear the trans shifter. I was wondering if the later year heater boxes were the same depth - I am hoping they are skinnier - so I can hook up the heat/defrost again (don't want aftermarket). I have a lead on...

Anyone know which VTV is used on spark control system on 82 FJ40. This is the one in vacuum line that connects from distributor diaphragm to spaghetti pipe in front of valve cover. 81 Emissions FSM lists the VTV as blue on p. 3-3, but then lists it as brown on p. 3-10. Any idea which is correct to use - mine's missing and would like to use correct part. Thanks.

I've searched high and low and can't find an answer to this question: Can I use the same gear oil in the diffs in both a 2008 FJ Cruiser and a 1982 FJ40? The 40 calls for SAE90 Hypoid gear oil API GL-5, and the FJC calls for Toyota Genuine Differential Gear Oil LT 75W-85 GL-5 or equivalent. In my fruitless search, I did come across Poser's recommendation to use 80W-90 gear oil. So...

I want to mount a High Lift jack on the side of my 40 in front of the passenger door. I have seen and like this look on so many other 40's but I don't want to drill holes in the body. Is there a mount that mounts to the windshield hinge or something?
