It doesn't have a true ring USM and is very fragile. Mine broke and was fixed for $170 and not the focus is stiff again. It's only a matter of time before it doesn't work again. After more than 20 years, this is the lens to replace and yet Canon never does. It's strange that they always show this lens with their advertising on every camera, yet they never replace it. Great lens when it ...

Hi all, I've recently had a focusing problem with my out-of-warranty 10-22mm, which i managed to fix myself. I'm writing it up to see if anyone has experienced similar problems and hopefully help someone fix theirs without spending $100+ with canon! Anyway, my 10-22mm had been in storage for about 6mth. yesterday when i put it on my recently purchased 450d, shock horror! autofocus was ...

One possibility is using a close up lens (around $120). If you want to do dedicated 1:1 macro and also a sharp, shallow DOF, short tele portrait lens more often, then I use a EFS 60 f2.8. However.... On a hike I did this past summer, keeping weight down was a issue for that particular trip. Instead of the bulk and weight of a XSi with 60 macro, 17-55IS, 70-300IS, etc. I opted for the ...

How much aperture they want to go for at the short end is just one of the design parameters. While they technically have enough entrance pupil for a much larger aperture at the short end of the zoom, that would challenge the optical design much more than it is today. So, they choose to make the optical design at the short end a lot easier by only really using the center of the lenses (not ...

We've known that Syntax-Brillian, US-based holder of the Vivitar camera and accessory name, has been in a dire financial position after their Chapter 11 filing in July. The latest word on Syntax-Brillian and the once well-regarded Vivitar brand came this week, with the announcement that Vivitar's UK assets would be auctioned off, and that consumer products conglomerate Sakar International ...

Just got my Z300. Until recently I also had a Casio Z850 (my long-time favorite) and a Panasonic FX35, I previously also tried (and returned) a Z200 and Z1080. A short summary of my opinion after a few days. Unfortunately I do not have time to post full-size samples. My first impression is... not too impressed! I really, really hoped this cam would be the ultimate replacement for my Z850, but ...

So why external AF sensors have disappeared from prosumer compacts ? Probably one cause is that film compacts that used these devices are not anymore manufactured, so the parts manufacturer has stopped production. Another cause is that the external AF sensor can only be used for center focus or a few points around center, while newer digital compacts offer more and more contrast detect points ...
