Hi Katrinab, I don't mean to sound harsh, but your chances are virtually slim to none. You might possibly be able to get a job as a cleaner with the minimal of French, or to work in an expat English/Scotish/Irish pub but then you'd have to live on extremely low earnings and Paris is not the cheapest of places. There are one or two English companies in Paris, but those again would need spoken...

I posted in the Australian section of these forums some years ago as we were posted in Sydney for a couple of years with my job. Well, we returned to the UK for a few years and I changed employers. At the end of last year my new employer offered me 3 year posting in Paris on an expat package that could not be refused. We have lived in Paris for 7 months now (we being myself, my lovely wife and ...

I took a year of private French tuition before I moved (I'd only known one year in advance that I was going to come over to France, so didn't have that long to prepare). My French teacher had a huge influx of students and had to turn people away due to time (she was also a full time teacher). The sudden influx had much to do with rising house prices in the UK (and with the addition of all those...

Yikes! Sorry about that link. I just looked at it. I copied it off my own web page, and when I originally posted it, it was different! And at the time, there was English at the bottom of the page. Oh well, sorry about that! But basically, what Roberta said was right, the festival is every year, usually the 2nd weekend of October. Anna-Yes, there was more ice cream, that same night as a matter ...

bonjour, today i had my first french lesson with gisele - boy is it true about proper pronunciation of the french language! so many sounds american english doesn't have, like the "e's" and the "u's" and the "q's" and that tiniest of distinctions between "eh" and "ay" with the e's that have those forward and backward accents over them. and the e's that wear that little hat, my god it's not like ...

Did someone say Switzerland? or Schweiz (German) or Suisse (French) That map above is a good place to start. First, there are four official languages: French, German, Italian and Romansch. Romansch is the oldest latin based language and is only spoken by 10-40,000 people. Looking at the map, the French part, called Suisse Romande, extends from Geneva to Fribourg near Bern. Drop a line from ...

Hi and welcome to the forum. Other than the age difference, I was in precisely your situation 10 or 15 years ago. In order to work you are going to need to speak the language, but language learning takes time. If you're not learning from the class you're in, think about finding a different sort of class with a different teaching method (unless, of course, you're taking the state-sponsored ...
