Advertisements [ ? ] Friday Night Eye Candy Just over a thousand years ago, the stellar explosion known as supernova SN 1006 was observed. It was brighter than Venus, and visible during the day for weeks. The brightest supernova ever recorded on Earth, this spectacular light show was documented in China, Japan, Europe, and the Arab world. Ancient ...

http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap081007.html Dust Mountains in the Carina Nebula Bright young stars sometimes sculpt picturesque dust mountains soon after being born. Created quite by accident, the energetic light and winds from these massive newborn stars burn away accumulations of dark dust and cool gas in a slow but persistent manner. Such is the case in NGC 3324, a star ...

Re: :: Post your Astronomy Images here ! :: Outstanding work Baz. I can only dream of imaging Eta Carina someday and photographing the incredible native birds of Australia as well. Maybe someday. Here's a rework of an image that has given me a new lease on processing emission nebula. Because I shoot with unmodified DSLRs(5D and 20D) I ...

Can you provide info on what the image is? where, etc. Happens all the time. Here's a fun one: Eta Carinae. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eta_Carinae About 7700 light-years away, in the Carina nebula at the outer edge of the next-inner spiral arm of the MW. It's about 120 solar masses, and very young. Such massive stars only live a few million years, burning huge amounts of energy before the cores...

Peony Nebula Star Settles for Silver Medal If our galaxy were to host its own version of the Olympics, the title for the brightest known star would go to a massive star called Eta Carina. However, a new runner-up, now the second-brightest star in our galaxy, has been discovered in the galaxy's dusty and frenzied interior. This image from NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope shows the new ...
