It is recommended that you run both. Most requests and replies are sent as UDP. TCP is used when the response is larger then a UDP packet or transferring data from master to slave.

UDP is an option, but multicast is not. Multicast is blocked, unfortunately. There is usually only ever 1 client. The network slowness is never on the server's side, always the client side. And the term "network load" in this case, I believe, is pretty straightforward -- because it occurs only in fast-market periods (when some event or bit of news comes out, and the market(s) experience a lot...

I haven't delved too deeply into the problem (basically, haven't read much of the threads) ... but is this cross domain or same domain - and what are the connections between the systems involved (VPN, multiple routers, etc)? We had a problem a couple of years ago that took down thousands of users (for cross-domain access, in our case) - after hours on the phone with PSS, their ...

Tom, the UDP spoofability problem with DNS does not apply here. Astaro distributes the certs in the client installer package, so the cert is not transmitted over UDP. It can't be spoofed. This also makes man-in-the-middle attacks impossible. If you can decrypt the received traffic, then you know that you are communicating with the Astaro you intended to connect to. Alvin, The reason to use ...

[ Log in to get rid of this advertisement] billymayday-- I think you are on to something. The question for me is how to fix it. My network layout--not sure how to answer. Physically we have a router connecting to the internet. Behind that is a network switch, and behind that are the various computers. These two computers are PCs, each running Ubuntu 8.04.1 (the latest...

Allrighty here's the problem. I have some friends of mine who wanted more security and to be able to run a server on their network as their old Linksys router was crapping out anyway. The solution seemed obvious ClarkConnect. Well that was all fine and dandy and after fighting with the Linksys for a while we just removed it form the equation. So now we have: a cable modem > CC box > 8 ...

I have a question that I figured I would pose to the forum... I am trying to use VLAN mapping and VLAN filtering on a 6509 applied to a VLAN. On the VLAN map I am referring to an ACL that I created. This ACL uses numerous lines permiting and denying TCP anf UDP ports for certain IPs. However from all documentation it this topic it shows examples permiting or denying IP addresses and not ports or...
