Solved! The problem was with the motherboard's power supply management. I took it to a service person and he said it's a common problem with Compaq V6000 /V3000 series laptops.. He solved the problem within 30 mins by replacing the chips...... Too bad I spent several weeks on troubleshooting the problem myself. I hope this post will help someone...... Thanks!

I'm not HP staff, FYI, HP only support OS that shipped with the notebook. The guide was made to due high demand from HP owners. If you wish to have technical support from HP, please buy their Business Notebook, most of Business models shipped with Windows Vista Business with downgrade to Windows XP Professional custom installed . Have you tried Win7?

Hello, I just tried driver guide and found the chipset software I was looking for ( links and info below), this package includes drivers for the audio, ethernet, Smbus, and memory controller; everything you need. I'm not sure why this isnt on the driver/software download page, but its not. Hope this helps someone in the futures so you don't need to pull your hair out link me. ...

so, its october 23rd and still no drivers. When am i going to get a definite answer of if my laptop will have driver support for windows 7? All of these support pages that say "maybe" doesn't cut it. I installed windows 7: wired LAN does not work there are 3 entries in the device manager that come up as 'unknown' sound does not work I tried installing the drivers from vista in windows 7 for audio and chipset, but that does not make the wired LAN or sound work. Again, like 2 days and there are still no drivers for my laptop? How do I tell if they are going to support it...
