So in preparation for a large purchase in the USA, I called visa twice and confirmed that the exchange rate I received on my purchase would be the rate posted by the bank of Canada on visa's actual online POSTED date and not the TRANSACTION date, which was over $100 difference. For such large purchases it's best to use a USD card, then pay it off in US cash.

Do you have a VISA with CIBC? Or maybe other banks too. I have Roadside Assist with CIBC Visa and it's like CAA but I believe you get more service calls per year. It costs me I think $9 a month.
