My Hummers LOVED the Black & Blue more than any other flower, And even more than their feeders!! It is not hardy here in MI, The tag says hardy to Z. 7, I wonder,.. Can I dig it up and put it in my basement like we do with Cannas? Or Is it the type of plant that needs to be green year round. I know I don't have much time to decide up here in MI, I'm surprised it is still green!! Thanks for ...

Salvia black and blue can easily be wintered over in the colder zones by digging the clump up (you will see tubers or rhizomes in the root mass) and potting it up in a pot. Keep it in an area that stays above freezing but still cold like an unheated garage or even crawl space if you have one. Water only when the soil dries out. Bring it out the following spring once the last frost chance has ...

I was on the White House garden tour this weekend and in the Rose Garden they had a stunning Black & Blue Salvia that was at least six feet tall, maybe eight. When the park ranger told me what it was I was incredulous because I have grown it and mine stayed pretty short. Are there two varieties, one tall one short? Or was mine at home just not as happy as the one at the White House?

I have two that were planted in September 08 that are 5 feet tall in only one year. So, I can imagine one getting taller. Were you allowed to take photos? Cameron

What is your favorite darkest, deepest blue salvia? I am new to these, and have seen somepics of some pretty blue ones such as "May Night". Would be especially nice if they are hardy to z6. Got any pics of them in your garden? Tammy

I expect my S. sagittata to set seed... my hummingbirds are all over it right now. It is rather large. The leaves are very interesting, too.

I would like to collect seeds from my black and blue salvias. As far as I can see the flowers turn black and fall cleanly off. Where do I find the seeds?
