February 21, 2009 "Amish heater" does a good job, but don't expect any miracles When is an electric space heater more than just an appliance? When it's an "Amish heater." At least that's what those spread newspaper and magazine ads and television commercials for the "miracle" Heat Surge Roll-n-Glow Electric Fireplace would have you believe. The marketing for this appliance says ...

Little has changed with the Amish since I attended public school in the sixties. Or has it? We lived in Northern Indiana, and had several Amish classmates, at least through the 8th grade. (Amish believe education leads to pride, and must be avoided.) Back then, it was easy to live without technology; there just wasn't much. But now you see Amish on cell phones and hear rock and roll ...

Can anyone tell me what an Amish turkey is? Is it just a turkey raised by Amish people? I've ordered one for T-Day, but the person behind the counter at the market had no clue what one was when I asked. I can't find any information online, other than people reccommending them. So what the heck is the difference between an Amish turkey and any other type of bird? Amish jokes tolerated but ...

I know people made it up originally, but those people were French, not Amish. And the Amish don't have tv and movies and romance novels showing them how. And I can't feature Amish dads passing that down to their sons. I can't feature Amish dads slipping Amish moms the tongue at the Amish breakfast table, where the kids would see. And barnyard animals wouldn't be helpful for that ...

Unfortunately I missed the GO over at the beauty Bottle - now I realized they charge ridiculous shipping for international orders... I'd be interested in the short ones (1 5/8" and 2"). They sell for 3$ for 12 pins - I'd pay you 5$ for 12 + shipping if you can get reasonably priced shipping to Germany. Please help me out here!!

Beverly Lewis Anyone ever read her? She writes a lot of Amish novels. All of them are based not far from where I live and I am familiar with a lot of her reference points so it is kinda neat. I think I just read all of her books, at least all the ones my library had. Pretty good...but basically predictable outcomes. It does make ...

I finally found them locally and liked the quality. When I saw the yardage I thought of Amish quilts rather than Gee's Bend. I still plan to make a Gee's Bend style for my friend after the first of the year but am planning several Amish quilts for myself. The colors are rich and the "hand" is good. The ads say "hand dyed" but I can't see how yardage like that can be truly hand dyed. Will ...

This crime hits home because my friend lives right outside Kent and I may be visiting that area in a few days. I reckon I know what area to avoid. Those d@mn Amish! Interesting how the article didn't bother showing the perps' mug shots. http://www.fox8.com/news/wjw-akron-student-txt,0,6 189107.sto... -------------------------------------------------- ----------- Police say the 23-year-...

Buddy of mine hates a lot of things in life but on the top of his list are the Amish and horses. I found a horseshoe in the trash and had to do something with it. Putting it on his truck seemed to be a good use. Total fab time was about 1 1/2 minutes I used a 5/8 bolt drenched in loctite 271 to secure in the hitch.

So we go out to eat at a chinese buffet in the heart of Amish country. It was tasty and so I decided to immerse myself in the Chinese culture since I wear their clothes and use their tools. When I opened my fortune cookie it said "You will have good luck" and on the other side it said "Pumpkin in chinese is nan gua". So I go to pay for my meal and I asked the lady if she spoke Chinese even...

Ok guys, I'd love to know what you like about your current purse/bag. I have a bunch of leather than I am going to be making into a bag with the help of my amish leather guys, but I am sort of stuck on what to do. What length handles do you have? Why do you like that length? Are the inside pockets/dividers? How many? How big? Are there outside pockets? How does it close? Zipper, ...
