AMD Processors

I don't believe AMD will drop DDR2 support until they move to the "Bulldozer" architecture. One of the big reasons to go with AMD is the fact AM2+ users can keep their current board and memory. I think they learned their lesson the hard way after the S939/AM2 switch.

Am2/am2+/am3 mobos are actually AM2+, they shouldn't be listing AM3 as they aren't AM3, they support AM3 cpus because the cpus (not the mobo) have both a DDR3 and a DDR2 memory controller and are built to work in AM2+ and AM3 sockets. A genuine AM3 motherboard only works with AM3 cpus and DDR3 memory. The difference between that memory and the stuff i linked is the timings, 7...
