For sale ( Zurich ) : Winter tyres and wheels (195/65/R15). Approx 25 ,000 km covered in them. We used them on a Subaru Legacy estate. (We just purchased the same car, new, and for some reason it needs different winter tyres, hence the reason for sale). The make of tyre is Continental Contact. We paid CHF 1,300 ...

I have read a lot of reviews on the benefits of winter tyres and the fact that the UK is well behind the rest of Europe and Canada and especially Germany where winter tyres are mandatory. Apparently winter tyres can save lives especially when below 5 degrees or thereabouts by having a softer rubber which does not turn as hard as iron and become ineffective below zero degrees as normal tyres do....

Hello everyone - been on the board a while now and enjoy reading your write-ups. Also on other BMW related boards with my GS 'bikes for the better weather and don't have to worry about the tyre ratings too much there - you get 2 choices on the GS - road tyre or knobblie - either way, they stay in the warm/dry garage when the gritters come out So, 1st post... Seasonal question... Currently...

Hi guys Please suggest me a set of tyres from winter roads in Ireland. AMO tyres in my car are bit hard, I am thinking of buying soft to increase grip. Thanks

Has anyone decided to downsize to an 18" winter tyre selection? If so, can you let me know what tyre option you went with? I have a preliminary quote for an 18" set of Blizzaks LM25 (255/55/18) w/ Moda EB1 rims for $1850 CDN. Doesn't seem too bad but I'm wondering what other options you guys have chosen already. Thanks.

I've had worse driving weather in April in Sweden than in late November. When it gets cold, the snow just goes dusty and you can almost drive normally, but one April we drove from Stockholm to Gothernburg and got caught in a bad storm. It was raining when we left Stockholm but we had heavy snow and icing conditions when we got down about halfway, and caught very bad conditions on the ferry ...

Quote: There's an important item in that message from Michelin - let your insurers know what you're planning. If you have an accident and it turns out that the tyres were in some way non-standard and were implied in the cause of the accident, you may find yourself without cover. Rang Aviva about this Waesley - managed to get a call centre muppett asking "Vot is you meaning by vinter?" (...

Can't remember if it was on this thread or I read elsewhere but Summer tyres wear much quicker during the winter months. I assume that this is all down to temps. Due to the cost I'm having a bit of grief with the credit card company - fraud unit etc in India. My tyres also wanted a utility as proof of ID. Its good to know that there are measures in place but its still a PITA. Apart from...

Anybody try Geax Daturas? They have a very cheap version . Reviews that I've found look good, but I'd like to hear from somebody that rides drops, jumps and woodwork during the winter in addition to slick dh runs.

I'm thinking about something similar, but am having difficulty deciding on width, I really fancy something like Schwalbe 2.35 Big Apples after falling off the edge of some narrow tyre on a motorcycle a few years ago while leaning on a corner, but think maybe a 1.5 Schwalbe Speed Cruiser or 1.5 Maxxis Detonator would actually be better for faster road trainning. Any ideas? ...
