i just got a new hard drive put in and when i try to update windows i say 91 updates and when i click install updates it frezes up the computer and have to restart it when i check the auto up dates it says instalation faild with this error code 80246008 help thanks cory

This morning windows update ran on my puter and now it will not boot into XP pro at all. I get an msvcrt.dll error where the normal login screen should be. I've got a new laptop and the automatic updates start to download as soon as I turn it on but seem to have got stuck. They haven't got any further than 22% and if I click onto the windows update it says installing updates 2 of 8 and doesn't go any further than that.
