Is Windows search really needed with Google? I had an update on it this morning and it has taken over my task bar I can't seem to get the task bar back to single. I have tried the double arrow but it isn't working this time. I think I had it before but it was at the top and I never used it. Help

I'm using Windows Search V4 on my laptop running XP SP3. My Windows Search stopped at some point indexing Outlook content. So I de-installed and then did a complete new install of Window Search V4. Now all of a sudden Search does not index Outlook (only Outlook Express) and no emails are returned as search results. I have made sure to select .ost and .pst file types but that didn't help either. ...

This works fine on XP machines which have WDS installed For example, you just run this command and WDS will search for every file associated with 'ref123': "C:\Program Files\Windows Desktop Search\WindowsSearch.exe" /url "search-ms://query=ref123" Now ...

Hey, I recently bought a new laptop running Vista Business (Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, T9550@2.66 GHz, 4 Gig Ram) and almost from day one my CPU has been clogged and runnning at very high %, even when i'm not doing a lot. The problem seems to be the searchindexer.exe, which routinely takes up 50% of my CPU. I have tried removing xml files from the indexing list and i have rebuild it, but to no ...

I am looking for a copy of a file on one of my computers loaded with XP. I did a search for part of the file name and got no results. The problem is, there are at least two files in My Documents that contain the search term as part of their file name. I've tried searching by file name, including the term in the document, and nothing comes up. Ok, it occurred to me that I was searching...

client: Outlook 2007 I'm able to search for my Outlook items and new results appear to be indexed. I can preview these results inside WS. However, I am unable to double-click or right-click/Open to open any of the items. There are no error messages displayed on the screen nor in event viewer. Other item types, such as documents (non-attachments) open just fine. Possibly ...

Every time I try to narrow the results of one of the Windows Forums using the "Search Forums:" window at the top of the page, I only get two results. Even if I put in a single term as generic as "print" which should result in hundreds of hits, the page responds with "Showing 1-2 of 2". Any hints on what is wrong? Additionally, even though I have the "Alert me" box checked, I have never yet ...

How do I uninstall the Windows Desktop Search program? There is no entry for it in Add/Remove programs applet. I find the program to be utterly useless regardless of which specific folders I tell it to index. I cannot trust its results and am forced to use third-party search utilities to find files with specific keywords. ....
