I can't get Windows Search to work when I try to open it from All Programs. In Services it is "stopped" and I can't change it. Any suggestions?

Is Windows search really needed with Google? I had an update on it this morning and it has taken over my task bar I can't seem to get the task bar back to single. I have tried the double arrow but it isn't working this time. I think I had it before but it was at the top and I never used it. Help

I'm using Windows Search V4 on my laptop running XP SP3. My Windows Search stopped at some point indexing Outlook content. So I de-installed and then did a complete new install of Window Search V4. Now all of a sudden Search does not index Outlook (only Outlook Express) and no emails are returned as search results. I have made sure to select .ost and .pst file types but that didn't help either. ...

Improve Performance

Just a little history first, I have a HP desktop that had a stick of RAM go bad. Caused all sorts of problems, blue screen crashing, superfetch stopped working etc...RAM is replaced now and things have been fine. Hey, I recently bought a new laptop running Vista Business (Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, T9550@2.66 GHz, 4 Gig Ram) and almost from day one my CPU has been clogged and runnning at very high %, even when i'm not doing a lot. When you do a search from the Start menu. It finds the files but it does not give the datails for the files. Since I keep the same files in different places and some are older have been changed. I can not tell which i need to look at. It just brings up a list of files with the same name. Windows 7. 1 person needs an answer I do too

I am looking for a copy of a file on one of my computers loaded with XP. I did a search for part of the file name and got no results. The problem is, there are at least two files in My Documents that contain the search term as part of their file name. Every time I try to narrow the results of one of the Windows Forums using the "Search Forums:" window at the top of the page, I only get two results.  Even if I put in a single term as generic as "print" which should result in hundreds of hits, the page responds with "Showing 1-2 of 2".  Any hints on what is wrong?   How do I uninstall the Windows Desktop Search program? There is no entry for it in Add/Remove programs applet. I find the program to be utterly useless regardless of which specific folders I tell it to index. I cannot trust its results and am forced to use third-party search utilities to find files with specific keywords. ....
