I've always turned off the Windows Firewall, but noticed that the Service still runs. I turned off the Service last night and noticed the system is faster. I researched this on the Forum, but wanted a clarification as to: 1: Should the Windows ...

I need my service to start after the firewall service so the network traffic isnt blocked. I know I could set the firewall service as a dependency but this will not work if the firewall service is disabled? Is there another service I should set as a dependency? I already use RPC. I dont see many topics related to this issue so I think I may be doing something wrong? Are there techniques I ...

I have some Windows XP SP2 clients that I am trying to install the SCCM client on. Windows Firewall is turned on, I can't disable it (company policy)... I have read the document on creating exceptions in Windows Firewall to permit the SCCM client to work. I see that I am supposed to create a firewall exception for WMI, but when I open Firewall and go to the Exceptions tab, WMI is not listed. ...

I have just installed a ripwave modem from irish broadband & have had nothing but problems trying to access the internet. I've been in touch with technical support who have tried everything to fix but to no avail. The problem seems to be, my modem or pc not locking onto the automatic ip address. I've since switched off the windows firewall to see if that helps & it seems to have done the trick. ...
Just installed Security Essentials on an XP machine after uninstalling McAffee. Had to manually start Windows firewall but can't get Windows Security Center to run. Does Security Essentials replace the Security Center? Shouldn't Security Essentials make sure that the Windows Firewall is enabled? 1 person needs an answer I do too

Do you know of a way to prevent Windows Update from trying to go to Microsoft, by using a firewall? My Windows 2003 Server wants to get the latest updates all the time, and I was thinking that I need to setup a UDP port to block Windows Update. Do you know what Windows Update uses? Isn't it just a UDP port? ....

If I run Windows in a VM, do I need to run a firewall? Since the Mac has it's own firewall, and the Mac gives the VM it's connection, is a firewall actually needed on the VM itself? __________________ Don't donate to Autism Speaks. Even more reasons not to donate to ...

oops, sorry about that; LUA & UAC are in Windows, not the firewall. LUA stands for Limit User Account (XP) and UAC stands for User Access Control (Vista/Win7) The bottom line is DON'T run day-to-day on the Internet using an Administrator account!

Hi friend. I have been using Ccleaner for years to keep all the trash off my PC. I have never had any trouble. I'm running XP3. Ccleaner does not mess with the registry unless you click that feature. It does have a very mild registry cleaner. I agree when you mess with the registry, you better know what your doing.Ccleaner is not a registry cleaner and I don't see how it can cause any problems. ...
