Although an amateur, I prefer to build my own systems, and also I sometimes reformat my boot drive and reinstall Windows XP. when the installation opens the "Install Win Xp" is blacked out. Really, I am wanting to reformat and get rid of any of the previous owners filles/data. I have a 3 disk set of "MICROSOFT MS-DOS 6.22 PLUS ENHANCED TOOLS" Are these for formatting? 1 person needs an answer I do too

Strange Win XP issue So a friend of mine calls me with a problem. I head over take a look at it. Starts up with a stop code 0x00000050, page fault in non paged area. I have to do a ipconfig / release and then a /renew, and then everything works fine for a while. But then I'll try a new page, and nothing. No lites come on the modem for tx, rx. If I renew ip, it works for a while again. What file could be casuing this? Any suggestions are welcome. Alan 1 person needs an answer I do too

Maxtor USB 300Gb external HDD working fine on Windows XP. Unplugged and attached to new Windows 7 PC. OS responds by saying device found and working properly. I use the disk to download assorted files. Then moved CPU a few feet (did not swithch off or move USB HDD). Reboot, and USB HDD not seen as a working disk. I'm trying to repair a Gateway laptop for a friend. It is loaded with Win XP sp2. The problem is that the laptop appears hung after the first Windows spash screen when trying to boot.
