I was at FRA recently and noticed that some LH A333/A346 and B744s have a large gray egg shaped antenna mounted on the top of the fuselage. Is it a new communications antenna or does it have something to do with the IFE system? I tried to find a good picture of it but this is the only one I could find. Quoting SashA ( Reply 12 ): Even if they're bearing with the weight, what about the aerodynamic effect? Wouldn't that extra bulb on the fuselage actually provide more drag? You get both lift and drag. The problem is that the L/D of a short squat shape like an antenna fairing is horrible...you just want to go for minimum drag and screw the lift. Tom.

You want to fly wide body aircraft here, yet you can't even fill out the application! YEA RIGHT, the two are directly interconnected. NOT! Thats what happens when you let Indians write, design or operate "anything" with a computer involved. Lots and lots of anomalies.

Actually, given the high amount of aircraft parked in the desert and the expected overhang in new wide-body aircraft, why don't they think about a number of used aircraft? Old B767 should be plentiful in the coming years.

Ah, yes, but the F-15 has such a wide, flat fuselage with those huge intakes that it's virtually a lifting body design. A classic "tube & wings" aircraft doesn't have that advantage, and would spin out of control, as it's only getting lift from one side. I suspect the Mig-29/35 and the big Sukhoi fighters may also be able to do that one-wing trick, as they've got even wider fuselages than ...
