Thanks for the comments. The photo was taken this morning, as were these that appear to have a shorter curved bill but were a good distance away. Would these be whimbrel or curlew again ?

Just wanted to share some shots from this morning... D300 and 70-300VR. The 70-300VR is a finicky lens. Its autofocus seems to like certain types of light and distances better than others. Sometimes wonderful, sometimes difficult to work with. I wouldn't trust it with a once in a lifetime shot, but when you have the chance to relax and take multiple pictures, it delivers most of the time. http...

I spent a few hours at one of the coastal lagoons in my country. Best time to go there is during low tide as our friends are feeding and such a wonder to watch them. I saw a lot of egrets and terns. greenshank, redshank, whimbrel, plover, clamorous reed warbler, white collared kingfishers, a common kingfisher and hear some gergones and zebra doves. I am new at birding so these I know ...

Birding trip to Sharm el Sheik, Egypt 19th of November 2009 HADABA. From my accommodation I awoke and went outside, firstly a Kestrel hovering above me, lots of House Sparrows and Laughing Doves everywhere. A walk around the corner and a Hooded Crow and four Carrion Crows were a familiar sight. A Large group of House Crows was better and then a Sardinian Warbler. SEWAGE PONDS A ...

Was 2009 the best year ever for rarities in Britain and Ireland? I have copied the mega rarity alerts from Birdguides in 2009 and it is one hell of a line up. The 26th Nov and today it was to be a visit to Alvor Estuary. First stop 'Cruzinha' the observatory and ringing staion. We met some very friendly people as per usual here and enjoyed the coffee and lemon sponge cake after the ringing session. We were told that Rachel had returned to the UK with her family, it seemed strange not seeing her friendly smiling face but the staff at Cruzinha were ...

Having just returned from Goa only yesterday, and with other priorities before spending time on the internet I can post only a quick report which might be of help to those going soon. I am a keen photographer more than a bird lister but the latter has some appeal too ! My wife is a non birder. We book holiday venues which should be suitable for us both hence places like Backwoods are not ...
