Every year, millions around the world suffer as a result of the non-regulation of the global arms trade. This year, on 30th October, 2009 at the United Nations, after years of discussions and debates, the vast majority of governments -- 153 in total -- agreed on a timetable to establish a"strong and robust Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) with the highest common standards to control international ...

This is a tough post. The family and I are moving to West Africa where I will serve as a Peace Corps Medical Officer. This is a great opportunity that we couldn't pass up. I would love to do an Airstream Caravan there, but they won't ship vehicles or trailers. So, I am selling my 1962 Tradewind. I am only 1/2 way finished with the shell-off project, but my loss could be your gain. I ...

West Africa is on the verge of becoming a source for drugs as well as a transit point, the U.N. drug chief warned Thursday. Antonio Maria Costa told the U.N. Security Council that since July his office and Interpol have been investigating numerous West African sites where they found large amounts of chemicals used to produce high grade cocaine and manufacture Ecstasy. Costa, ...

Thanks for the link mad scientist, that is very interesting. If large scale cocaine production started taking place in Africa I imagine it would drive the price of cocaine down a fair bit. We can always hope!

That's true. Part of the reason for going is to "get grounded" and realize what is important in life and what is not. So that's a great question. I guess that's part of the reason I like vintage cars and trailers, maybe we all feel the same way. You don't throw away something of value. I feel ya!

No.3 above has it right. One month is not enough time for this... believe it or not. As well, it is a very risky and dangerous route as it passes through some of Africa's most unstable and war-torn countries, and considering the vehicles you will be forced to travel in - NOT eco-friendly at all! (Nor safe.) I absolutely appreciate your wanting to be as green as you can, and avoiding flights ...

Whats wrong with cycling 100km+ in a day? What roses are you missing? And if a cyclist is missing roses, what are backpackers at 80km/h+ missing? :-) In fact I would argue that someone riding 3000km in a month sees more than someone riding 1500km in that same month on that same route (or half of that same route, as the case is). And honestly, in West Africa, particularly the Sahara, not ...
