Next month, the UK celebrates the music of Hans Werner Henze one of the world's greatest composers. The 83-year-old talks about his two months in a coma and why loss has inspired his best work I am standing outside the German composer Hans Werner Henze's house in Marino, near Rome, looking at his olive grove, an infinity of gnarled branches and leaves that shimmer in the brilliant winter ...

Somebody thought it would be funny if they stole my paddle bag w/ a bunch of gear and two paddles in it, out of my car the night before I'm leaving for the Washington DC. I doubt it was a paddler so I'm expecting this stuff to turn up on Craigslist or Ebay or even maybe on here. Right now I'd like to meet this person and strangle them. The only reason I agreed to go and visit my family in law for...

As I was kitbashing this figure, I couldn't help but thinking about my first kitbash - during the winter, nine years ago - a Waffen-SS private, out of a 21 st C Eastern Front Rifleman and adding the camouflage smock and helmet from the 21 st C German Machine Gunner and arming him with a M-1 Carbine and M-1911 pistol - based off of the infamous Kampfgruppe Hansen group photos from the Time Life...

(Chamberman has posted the referenced WSJ article on this board. If you have not read that thread you may want to do so.) I agree with Scott Drew about expanding the NCAA Basketball Tournament. But he wants to increase the number to 128 teams. He says that 68 of the 120 Football Bowl Subdivision teams play in bowl games this year. While that is true, I can tell you some of those teams don't ...

Good morning! Today marks the 12th and last edition of A Year in Cards for 2009! Craziness! I can't believe we've done this for an entire year. I hope these classes have been as much fun for you as they've been for me. Being that it's 10 days until Christmas when I'm posting this, you might think this month's class would be holiday related. But since it runs into January, I thought we'd ...

Werner Herzog directs Nicolas Cage in a crime drama that takes Cage to back to a very strange place in his acting career. His character is an ugly, shameless cop who will stop at nothing to get to the truth. An incredibly weird performance...too bad the end left me scratching my head. See it for Cage. Truly crazy and at times unbelievable.
