I was up the scrappy yesterday and enquired what they did with their wmo-'chap picks it up-issues wtn and charges £30' says he. 'If i take it away for free' says I 'can I have it?' 'Yes, but you'll need to issue me with a wtn' says he. Is this going to be a hassle/exspence for me? I want the oil for my [nearly built] MEN heater BTW.

For WTN, depends on what direction price and demand go from here. 2010 fiscal contract price is $125 for met. 2009 was well over $250. Since WTN has capacity of 7 Mill tons and cash cost about $110, if $125 is the low case, WTN has little cash flow and makes no money. If high case is $225 , cash flow is about $700 million per year (7 million * ($210 average for met/PCI - $110 cash cost)). WTN ...

WTN: `03 Loupiac Chateau Gaudiet Sauternes. Have the `01 in the cellar somewhere but found this in a local winebar. Certainly not a high-end wine, maybe $18 for 375 ml? The color is a pale gold/light honey almost. On the nose, floral/peach/dried apricots/butterscotch. Sweet and rich on the palate, so-so acidity, ripe peach and more honey. Could use more grip on the finish, sort of fades away....

That got your attention! Opened a couple of bottles of the Le Rote Vernaccia di San Gimignano for some rodeo folks here the other day. Vanetta and Vania are involved with various rodeo charities here in Alberta so do excellent work I`d say. WTN: `07 Le Rote Vernaccia di San Gamignano, Italy. Nice looking label, good natural cork, 13.5% alc, $20 Cdn. Food was penne in a creamed tomato, ...

2006 Domaine Weinbach Riesling Alsace Cuvee Ste Catherine 13.5% Opened with great anticipation. Lovely vapors of honey, grapefruit, passion fruit, petrol and indistinct white flowers. Bracing acidity, mouth-filling thickness, slight touch of bitterness, acidity and sweetness in balance. Then why am I not as happy as I should be? Everything seems a bit too correct. Too Norse Goddess blonde-on-...

A 70-30 Loureiro-Pederoa blend. Light yellow in the glass. Nothing much on the nose. Prickly on the tongue, lemon, tart green apple, peppery, light bodied, clean and refreshing. Lightly drying on the finish with mouthwatering Granny Smith apples. Lacking a bit of freshness, but still an enjoyable wine. Purchased at $11.95 (Canadian).

Niagara Peninsula Light red in the glass. A warming nose, herbal, leafy, spicy, cherry fruit. Light bodied, very tangy, lightly prickly on the tongue, dried fruit, cherry, cranberry, spicy, red licorice, floral. Drying, tangy and mouthwatering on the finish. A barely acceptable wine. I was put off by the very light body, the high degree of acidity and the prickly-bubbly sensation on the ...

Domaines Schlumberger Bright yellow in the glass. Medium weight, tangy green apples, pear, a hint of orange, spicy, lightly honeyed, viscous, refreshing, with some bitterness toward the end. Mouthwatering finish. With time, the wine turned rather simple, with the fruit becoming quite over ripe and mature. Purchased at $17.95 (Canadian).

Henri de Lanzac. Equal parts Grenache, Mourvedre and Syrah. Dark garnet in the glass. Wonderful berry flavors of Cherry, raspberry, cranberry, blackberry with hints of herb and cherry chough drop. Silky with good balance and plenty of fine grained tannins that require decanting at this stage. I opened the wine 2 days ago, tasted and let sit on the counter for 24 hours before revisiting, which ...

Mendoza A blend of Syrah (75 per cent), Malbec (20) and Cabernet Sauvignon. Decanted about 90 minutes before supper. Note: The wine didn't need to be decanted this long, I simply made a mistake about the time we would be eating. Very dark purple in the glass. A lovely nose: chocolate, cedar, red licorice, spicy, rich berry fruit. Very rich, fleshy and juicy black cherry, raspberry and red ...

Monday was roast chicken with bread salad, but we only had some leftover wine with it (Latour Marsannay still stunk). Last night Betsy made veal chops with sage, with a mashed potato/squash combo and bok choy. Wine was the 2007 Jadot "Domaine J.A. Ferret" Pouilly Fuisse . I thought this more Cote d'Or-esque than Maconnish (I love making up words). Expressive nose -white flowers, hazelnuts, ripe...
