I wanted to buy my parents a tv but wasn't sure what to get them. Right now they still have a tube tv so bluray is not going to be important to them. 720 or 1080? I know plenty about the differences I just don't have a comparison to a tube tv. I wouldn't want to get something that is not as good as what they currently have(pq). I had a cheap 720 and the picture quality was horrible but...

So ... wife and I are not big TV watchers but it might be time for an upgrade. The one TV we have is a like a 17" bubble from 1990 - seriously. I'm not a videophile but I would like to get something that will last (as you can tell) and a good value ... in other words I don't want to drop 750 on a TV and then have it look jumpy / blurry (go big or go home ) The room is reasonably dark ...

I'm thinking its about time I get a new set, have a 30" CRT HDTV as my current and it's just too small. I am going with plasma. Cap on my budget is $2k, but I want to get the most TV for my $$. I am not a huge videophile, but I do want the nicest picture I can afford. From a technical stand point, the only question I had is that on the Pioneers they claim 60hz and 72hz respectively. I assume...

Prologue "Submitted for your approval: A videophile-in-training had settled in for what he thought would be years of non-stop, carefree viewing pleasure. Then they attacked: the "what ifs", "why nots" and "let's sees" that lurk around every corner in the rabbit hole. Next stop: The Blu-ray Zone" Introduction I thought that it was time to quit living an austere life ...

I found the list of questions and here they are with the answers. I am not a videophile, but would like to have some confidence as to a good model selection. I can mail / web order and have no problems with refurbished or repaired TVs, but do want reliability. Long term reliability. We are not real critical viewers, but after some reading, I think I would like to go to 1080p and not need...

A MSNBC report indicates LCD popularity is increasing over plasma Plasma TVs may be losing popularity as LCD technology continues to improve in performance and picture quality while at the same time the price tags have been falling. "If you're a videophile, you're still absolutely more into plasma than LCD , and plasma will still be the predominant choice for video enthusiasts and sports...

Hi all. First time poster here trying to get some advice. My husband is a HUGE audio/videophile (he worked at Tweeter for a long time before they went out of business.) His birthday is coming up in October and I wanted to give him his own TV to game and watch movies on. I only have 800 bucks to spend, however. I was considering buying a Samsung LN40B530P7FXZA 40'' LCD for him, but I don't ...

Hi, After years of dreaming I finally bought a Pioneer PDP-LX5090H! I have not decided if I want the side speakers yet, because I already have standing speakers of my Sony HT-SF1300 Home Cinema System. This is a relatively budget system, but as I am more a videophile and less an audiphile, it is ok (at least for now). I was actually quite surprised by the sound of it after auto-calibration...

We are expecting a baby early next year I want to buy an HD camcorder for family movies Three factors are important to me : 1-video quality, i don't call myself a videophile, but i certainly recognize and appreciate good quality video (i think 90% of youtube is absoultely unwatchable) 2-easy software for basic editing (trimming, joining....etc)....windows based, we don't have macs....

I am thinking about upgrading from my 37" Sharp 720P LCD to a larger 1080p plasma or lcd. I am not a videophile by any means and therefore do not require a $3000.00 television. I checked some of the lower cost 46" LCD's and 50" plasmas in my local stores, then came to CNET for some advice. CNET has not reviewed any of the models I was looking at. I would assume the majority of ...

Qdeo Blu-ray test disc promises more nits to pick and adjustments to obsess over Quote: by Steven Kim posted Aug 19th 2009 at 4:02PM Pristine transfers and favorite demo material aside, if you're an obsessive-compulsive videophile like us, one of the first discs you reach for after unboxing that new TV is a calibration disc. You know, the ones with the ...

The cameras I'm considering are: Canon 7D or 50D (and later 60D) or 500D/T1i (thanks for the correction) Pentax K-7 Nikon D90 I've revised my information to reflect my current interests. Any answer in the absence of objective tests will be subjective and answers to your question may vary. I have owned an HDMI Flea and now own a DVDO Edge. Both were fed into a Denon AVP with a Realta T2 chip. I tried many combinations and generally judged by what looked most pleasing to me. I admit to low standards and i am not a videophile. Unfortunately content is more important to me than ...

MlREFOX: that just shows that you don't know what you are talking about and are just looking for articles to try and shoot down the idea that there is a difference. HDMI licensing has not been implemented and there is no standard that HDMI cables need to be held to. They are trying to finalize a standards, but there isn't one yet. - Yes, I'm the one who doesn't know what he's talking about. ...

You're coalescing completely different groups of people together. Someone who spends hundreds or thousands of dollars on a single vinyl is a record collector and/or enthusiast for something related to that record, like the artist, more specifically in the aforementioned case the Beatles. That record will never be played again. It'll sit in a display case until its buried with the owner's ...

I've got an older (2002) home theater set up, and the receiver, a Rio HT2030, died finally. So I want to replace it without having to get new speakers--my old speakers are mounted on the walls, and I really don't want to change them out. So I just want to buy a new receiver, something that will play DVDs, has component video out (I have a 2000 TV), but also have speaker wire inputs for surround ...

You haven't stated wether you wanted LCD or Plasma...so I will begin with that from an excerpt I have posted elsewhere.... Although the debate between LCD and plasma has raged on for years, the real battle only started two years ago when manufacturers started producing LCDs big enough to go head to head with plasmas. Now that it has been raging for two years, we've seen some ...
