I know thesamba.com is a vital source for Vanagon and Westfalia intelligence gathering. However, I was wondering if anyone has posted any FREE online videos of doing Vanagon repairs or westy mods? Is there a possibility that one day we could post video repairs on the forum? I have checked youtube but the results are dismal at best. I recently purchased an 80 westy with 90K and only ...

Hi all, I'm a new owner of an 84' Vanagon (thanks!). I'm fixing it up. I have this weird red wire (see pic, red wire in lower left hand corner) which goes to a post on the starter solenoid. The other end of the wire goes to an after market switch that someone put in up by the dashboard. I cannot figure out what it's doing connected to the starter solenoid, since the van starts just fine...

I can find a lot of discussion about portable propane heaters, like Mr. Buddy, but couldn't find any about portable kerosene heaters. Anybody used one in a Vanagon? I'm looking at the DuraHeat Kerosene Heater from Home Depot for $130 that puts out 23,000 BTUs per hour because it could also be used to heat the garage. Seems less smelly than the propane ones, and people use them inside ...

I'll try to make a real long story short. Basically I've got Vanagon/Eurovan on the brain, have for years and have not had the chance to satisfy the fantasy yet. The history...my grandparents had a '70's westy that they took my brother and I camping in a lot when we were real young (late 70's, early 80's). Then when I was 16 and living in VT I nearly bought a '78 bus for my first vehicle but ...

I have a friend with a Vanagon and she's having trouble with her power steering belt. The first time I looked at it the belt had come off and had some missing teeth so I sent her to Autozone for a replacement belt. I installed the belt and sent her on her way. Now she's reporting that the belt came off a week later and she had another friend reinstall it. Now it's back off again. I'll have ...

I need some help obtaining some direction on a Vanagon Oil Pressure problem. The PO contacted me to see if I could help him sell or donate his Vanagon as it has an oil pressure problem and he did not want to invest any more money. He only had 3 days to get it off the street. I made arrangements for him to donate it to our church so we could get him a deduction for the contribution. We ...

Hey everyone. I have lowered my van with what was supposed to be only 50mm. After installing the back only lowered minimal yet the front is very low. The ride quality is very bad also, really rough. The shocks are KYB gas-a-just and GR2's. The springs are american made. Can anyone recommend a good solid set up that rides good on rough roads and yet doesnt bounce around. I dont mind if it isnt ...

Well somehow this doesnt seem right. This ebayer has installed an auxillary battery in his westy, written a description on how he did it and included pictures (hey, kind of like dozens of people did on this board for each other!).... and he wants $25 starting bid for this information! He calls it a "kit", he emails it to you after payment.. THATS BUNK. I'm sure somebody helped him for free ...

Couldn't find a post on this through search. Looking for a Vanagon to buy still and have come across a couple good deals but I don't want to drive a manual. I was wondering how much it would cost to convert a manual into an automatic? And is it something that can be done on your own or take it to a shop?

Hi all. Searched the wheel sticky. Found info for MB 15x6, but not x 6.5 Saw these locally. Ad sez: 15x6.5" 1992 mercedes-benz alloy wheels $125 for 4. They need paint. Will they fit a 2WD Vanagon w/o spacers? I assume I need to drill out the holes and get new nuts. It appears they are the same as ones in upper RH of this page http://www....

I have an '85 VW Vanagon Weekender that has a rear facing seat. I have had my son in this seat, with his car seat facing backwards on the backwards facing seat. So he is rear facing, but he is also sitting in the seat in the same direction as an adult would be sitting in the seat. I hope that makes sense. Anyways, I was told that this isn't safe and a car seat should only be put in a ...
