My DS will be having another VCUG to check the status of reflux (last test was at birth and he had a grade V at that time). ? #1: My question has to do with anastesia. He will be about 11-12 months for the next test. They are giving me an option to do with or without. What should I do? This wasn't an issue last time as he was tiny and once he had a bottle, he was fine. I doubt it will ...

I have a friend who is a writer and he was trying to put a scene that included a young girl who requires a VCUG. He was stuck on one part of the procedure so I though why not go to the experts for info. Here's that part he just doesn't seem to get---- So the contrast material is injected via catheter, that seems obvious, then patient voids. Here's the embarrassing part-- voids into what? Bedpan? ...

DD had her VCUG yesterday (reflux grade 3-4 left side) and when we got home she spiked a fever that lasted through to this morning. I took her back to the doc who sent us for more blood work and another urine test. She's on Bactrim, so can she still get an infection? Also, could it be related to the VCUG? Anyone experience this?

My story: Prenatal ultrasound showed hydronephrosis at 41 weeks (I went late). Had an ultrasound when my son was 2 weeks old to confirm. Reflux was suspected and just verified today via VCUG. It looks like it will be grade 1-2 on the right side and grade 3-4 on the left. We've had him on prophylactic antibiotics for about 5 days now, even though I am very uncomfortable with it. My ...

Looks like his reflux is not getting any better. He was a champ for the ultrasound but you could clearly see the hydronephrosis on the left kidney. He then went for the VCUG and she had a hard time getting it in because he was crying so hard. They were much more gentle about removing the tape this time though. The Doctor was also very nice. He let the dye go in and you could clearly ...

It turned out great! He only let out a tiny peep when they inserted the catheter; didn't cry at all during the procedure (sucked hard on his soothie, though!). And the results were a relief -- no reflux, no water. They want to do a follow-up sono in 3 months, but that's just fine by me. Thanks to everyone for their answers/help/advice/support.

Replying to: Juanna Thanks for thinking of us! She is doing pretty good, she has trouble with weather changes and the Neurosurgeon said thats because of the pressure changes. This summer was pretty bad, in that she started having trouble even when she would use her hands and arms, like to throw or catch a ball or beat a drum...it would cause her to shriek with head/neck pain. At ...
