My students are writing essays on courage. Today, I looked at all 120 of their pre-writes and was overwhelmed....according to my totally informal, unprofessional data...67% of my students were writing about someone in their immediate family who has or died from cancer. How unprofessional this is. I just started, and realized that I can just put my nametag on my lined raincoat and wear it all winter with no suitcoat underneath! Talk about saving on dry cleaning!
