i need more ram for my laptop, if i use a usb flash drive, do i need to keep it in one of the usb sockets whilst i'm using my computer or can i remove it when i have sufficient ram?

my laptop will not boot to win xp from the hard drive or the inoperable cd drive. i keep getting a message saying that the win xp program config files cannot be found or are corrupted. i want to change the boot priority to a "removable device" like a 4GB usb flash drive. how do i create such a bootable usb device using another computer? thanks. 1 person needs an answer I do too
