Hi, This old thread is now closed, but I had a question relating to the true stereo recordings of Glenn Miller and his Orchestra from Sun Valley Serenade and Orchestra Wives. I'm wondering if the CD pictured below which came out in 1997 contains the famed true stereo recordings. I know there's another CD out there actually titled "True Stereo" but it's going for big bucks. I guess...

This arrived in the mail, and I can confirm this CD does contain the true stereo tracks. The mastering is not great (there's a CEDAR logo on the inside) with decent bass and mids but a high end that just sounds off. For all I know this was ripped from a VHS or laserdisc as there is some stray dialog and a couple songs without a clean ending. I'd be curious to know if the audio here is any ...

Jazz was common fare for early Stereo tape issues pre 1958 on 2 track Stereo tapes. Atlantic, Riverside, Contemporary, Verve, Columbia, and Mercury offered jazz titles before the advent of Stereo LP. They were anywhere from $12.95-$21.95 back then. And that's when an LP was $3.99-$4.99 list. .

"Love Me Do" in true stereo?

Does anyone have any information about "Love Me Do" in true stereo? I've heard a 12 sec. MP3 snippet. Paul's vocal is definitely coming from the left speaker and the instruments are to the center and right. I know this is the opposite configuration of the other tracks on the "Please Please Me" lp, but is there further info. out there?

The first Elvis 45 issued in true stereo

I seem to remember by the time RCA has started issuing stereo 45s , Elvis was still putting out mono ones . As I recall , "In The Ghetto" , Suspicious Minds" ,and "Kentucky Rain" were all in mono when they first came out ( although stereo versions came out years later ) . What was the first 45 Elvis put out that was in true stereo ?

Sorry, you lost me after the comment: "a purist like myself relishes hearing these early Beatle tunes in true stereo." There are NO TRUE STEREO recordings of those early sessions! The only way to listen to, and respect, any Beatles record up to and including "Beatles For Sale" is with the Mono mixes. I suppose some of the people who enjoy having vocals in one ear and instruments in the other ...
