With a party of four and several expensive train trips I would like to take advantage of the discount by purchasing ahead of time. I purchased on Trenitalia years ago and I'm aware of the problems since for those of us in the US. Over the summer someone posted about getting a plug in with a credit card number through Pal Pay. They no longer offer this... so I would like to know if ...

With the coming in force of the new Trenitalia schedules effective December 13, 2009, the gap between the most expensive trains (the "AV") and the cheapest (and slowest) trains (the "regionale") has widened even more. Indeed, while fares for the AV trains have all increased slightly over 10%, fares for the slower trains (including the Intercity ("IC" trains) have remained the same as ...

The changes to the Trenitalia schedules and fares effective December 13, 2009 have also widened the "fare gap" between the fastest trains (the "AV") and the slowest trains (the "regionale"). Indeed, while fares for the AV trains have all increased slightly over 10%, fares for the slower trains (including the Intercity ("IC" trains) have remained the same as before....

Just found out that Trenitalia are going on strike from 9pm on the 12th December until 9pm on Sunday 13th. That is of course the very day we need the train! Now to try and hire a car.
Scores of people have been confused by the Trenitalia website schedules post -12/13/2009. That's because the website is being UPDATED with NEW SCHEDULES AND FARES beginning 12/13/2009. The updating is supposed to be completed this week. If you seach the schedules today for travel post-12/13/2009, the results of the search will be INCOMPLETE or even non-responsive. Check back ...

Does anyone know how far in advance you can make reservations online? I'm trying to find schedules even, and it doesn't show for September 2010. I want to book my rental car now since there's a special going on, but I don't know the train schedule to know when I would arrive to pick up rental car. Edited title to facilitate search engine. This message has been edited. Last edited by: ...

The basic reply from what's been reported here is that it's impossible to use a non-Italian credit card on the Trenitalia site (even if it could be done a few years ago). It can be done for a premium on Rail Europe or ItaliaRail, and it would open at the same time that it opens on Trenitalia. It would be pointless to do that for these trips, where there are Regionali and the ticket you can buy ...

If my plan is to go from point "A" to point "D" is it acceptable to stop at points "B" and "C" (all in the same direction and the same train line) and continue on to point "D"?. For how long is a ticket good? I thought I read somewhere 6 hours.

Even some R tickets are time specific when you buy them from ticket machines. The train from Termini to the airport gives you a two hour window selection when you purchase. The faster trains don't stop at B and C which is the reason they are faster. On Trenitalia, select the train, select details by selection, select info. After you select info, scroll down to see the list of stops that ...

You could do a quick calculation and see if a pass would pay off. Usually it doesn't, but it's on sale (today is the last day) and you have 6 months before it has to be used so if you are traveling long distances before the end of June it might be worth it. They've lowered the required seat supplement to 10€ (you must buy seat reservations which can be done once you are in Italy). You would ...
