I'm a newbie and need to learn everything. Mainly I'm a cyclist and have a nice full carbon bicycle. So aesthetically I'm leaning to carbon trekking poles rather than aluminum. Would love to hear your opinion.

I’m planning my first section (Springer>NOC). I have learned so much here over the last few weeks. I have been paying particular attention to the gear stuff. 30 years ago I did some hiking and did not use them then. I would like to hear options on Trekking poles. I know there is no right answer. I would just like to know if you use them or not and why.

I want to be able to link two trekking poles to make one tall center pole for a tent. I saw something somewhere that was a trekking pole link it was something that held the two poles together. Does anyone know anything about this or a way to link two trekking poles to make one long pole ? Thank you, J

I know Leki poles seem to be the standard, but what I am wondering is what about them makes them worth so much more than some store brand poles, or ones like the Eddie Bauer line sold in Target. I have been using cheap ones from Bass Pro, and they have worked fine. But every time I go in an outfitters, I find myself checking out the Lekis and wondering what I might be missing. So what makes...

I'm sure this going to be a question on personal preference, but do trekking poles make the body more efficient when hiking? I'm looking for real world experience and comparing hiking with and without the poles to see if it is worth lugging them around. Thanks!

Got BD Trail Back trekking poles for Christmas. Used them the next day for a hike up MacNaughton. They performed magnificently! I'll let you know how they hold up in a few years __________________ Photos 1 --- Photos 2 --- Videos --- Peaks Climbed
