I'm set to relocate, I won't go into the details, suffice it to say its somewhere down south in the state. I would like to, subject ultimately to property size/shape etc, plant a number of trees to ultimately create a grand, elegant and shaded appearance to reflect my style. I intend to obtain poplars, manchurian pears (red leaf in autumn), oaks (red or gold autumn leaf), and maybe an elm ...

Sakina Mati is a farmer and community leader in the village of Guidan Batoye, in the Maradi Region of Niger. She began to manage the regeneration of useful trees on her fields 15 years ago together with other women farmers in the village. While she started with no trees on her farm, she now has up to 150 trees. The tree-planting effort in the Sahel is an all-women activity. When we ...

Since we moved home 2 years ago, my daughter said she didn't like the view out of her bedroom window as all she could see out the front were parked cars. She had a point! There's a grassy roundabout, but at least 2 cars for every house, one of our neighbours has 4 vehicles. Outside it looks more like a used car yard than a peacful cul-de-sac, as it should do. These days many streets ...

This is quite a subjective question but maybe someone can help push me in one direction vs the other. I'd like to plant a tree in full sun to enjoy a multi-seaonal show BUT in 10 years the area will become partly shaded. The other goal is for this tree to provide some growing season privacy and shade until the Celebration maples fill in. . So over that time it will go from 12 hours of sun ...

Looking into it with a couple buddies. Basically would be going to BC from Ontario for up to 7 months planting seedlings and making up to $65'000. Anyone actually done it though?

A tree company is currently planting trees in the neighborhood and I wanted to see if anyone had any comments about their methods. I have no experience planting large trees dug with a tree spade but it just doesn't look right to me. They will eventually come through and dump a bunch of dirt on top to even it out.

Future planning: Buy a tree when the very worst of the winter weather conditions (ie wind/rain.............not necessarily the cold) are past, remembering that cold doesn't bother them as much as you might think since they are dormant in winter, so it's ideal for planting when it's a bit frosty! It's wind & waterlogging that are the real pests. If possible, buy a bare rooted tree..................

Depends upon the city, but usu they won't let you tear up a public sidewalk unless you replace to standard, and even then they usu won't let the homeowner tear up a sidewalk. Speaking of that, Note the birch heaving the sidewalk likely beyond code and thus a trip and fall hazard. And note the very high cost of the retrofit to site utilities and give some gas exchange for the root volume....
