12" x 36" Travertine tile install Just got a 500 sq. ft. floor using 12" x 36" travertine tiles with a random stagger joint. I am coming in as a rescue to the guy who started. Should be a mud job, but there are too many issues for that. It is going to be over Hardibacker. I have always used 1/2" notch trowels for stone, but what ...

Wife has chosen 610mm x 405mm classic travertine tiles but I'm a bit apprehensive about laying such large tiles, I had originally suggested 457x305. I have dot and dabbed on new moisture board and it's almost perfectly flat, I've also tanked the shower and bath areas with homelux membrane so I reckon the walls will be ok. I plan to level up the wooden floor as much as possible and add extra ...

We have some rust spots on ruogh (tumbled?) travertine. What can be done to remove the spots? Thanks in advance, LT Answer Lawrence, There are products that I know of for carpet ..at the janitorial store... that remove rust instantly. I can imagine that it will do the same for tile(tumbled marble)....other than that CLR makes a product too. Have you tried the common items on the ...

How thick is travertine? I had not even heard of it until i reda about it here. And now I think it looks beautiful. However, I'm not sure we can even afford it, and I am worried about it being "hard", cold, and breaking anything that drops on it - but my largest concern - before I let myslef fall in love with it - is how thick it is. We are on a slab with 7'8" ceilings. We have 90" tall ...

Does anyone have a light walnut travertine kitchen floor? Need quick advise on whether to enhance or use clear sealer. Is the travertine supposed to have a shine on it? It does in all of the showrooms but they have sealed it with something other than clear penetrating sealer. Also I was told to make the grout match the color of the travertine. which looks better - a shade darker or lighter?

Travertine Trim I am planning to put a travertine trim around our woodstove hearth. The pieces are 1.75x1.75x24 inches and they are pretty heavy (around 10 lbs each). The trim would run up the wall for 12 feet. I have two surfaces to attach to - the edge of the mudbed and painted drywall (see the before pic). The mudbed was done 22 ...

My contractor mentioned today that he thought it would look nice to have travertine around the base of the walls instead of paint grade wood trim. He would ask the tiler to cut a 2" of travertine to go around the base of the walls. Our plan is to paint the walls (not tile them) and then intall crown moulding, possibly chair rail moulding, and definitely base trim moulding. The plan was for wood...

I'm setting an interior travertine tile floor over a concrete slab. I'm getting the slab perfectly level with some laticrete 84 or 86 self leveling compound and then going over that with hydraban. The tiles are a random pattern with 16x24, 16x16, 8x16, and 8x8. How thick should the thinset be? The tile is 3/8" thick. Any other pointers?

Seeing all of your gorgeous kitchens has me second guessing my love affair with this travertine floor. I love the warms tones in it! But it is busy and I have been trying to work my other selections around it. I am planning on quartz countertops and a creamy, yellowish ceramic Brittany & Coggs backsplash. So, any advice or input is welcome before I rip up my current kitchen....

We have this pebble floor in our shower and this travertine tile in the rest of the bathroom. I am planning on white subways for the shower walls/ceiling. We have quite a bit of leftover pebbles and I was thinking of putting a pebble border around the shower. Has anyone seen/done this? Photos?

So, what are going to do now that the photo shows you used SLC already?, if level, just go over it all with Ditra, no worries about cracking what is there now. SLC needs lath & primer over plywood, over CBUs or slabs, just the primer.

Granite is natural so it's limited in color availability. Marble is more porous and thus has more risk to have bacterial to breed for kitchen use, imo. But properly sealed, it should be fine--just more maintenance work is needed. As for kitchen floor tiles, I prefer not to have too many grout lines, so I would go for large piece tiles--or just go hardwood. For kitchen backsplash, I ...

Thanks for your input! I will stick with my original design plan. The wall color and the floor will be fairly similar and I like the idea of having a visual break between the two. I'll stick with baseboard molding. Thanks again!
