Hi, any help here would be appreciated... we've bought 450 x 450 travertine tiles to tile an entrance hall of just over 3 sq m. the floor is currently normal (MDF?) floorboards (house is 9 years old). i'm aware that the tiles need sealing both before and after grouting and that white grout is the stuff to use. my questions are: how many coats of sealant do we need to apply? do we ...

I just installed few 1/2 thick travertine tiles in a Versaille pattern using 1/2 trowel.. I was wondering how high the tile + mortar should be once the tile is set.. Currently the tile is 1/2 thick and the mortar is about 1/4 of an inch thick for a total hight of 3/4 of an inch.. Does it means that I put too much mortar? My concern is that the tile+mortar+cement board are going to be too ...

This is lovely 18X18 Travertine stone tile from Tuscany Italy that we ended up not being able to use after changing the design of our bathroom remodel. The stone has a sumptuous, classic look that is timeless. Its honed and filled. We can email more photos but ideally you should see in person. Perfect for entry way, backsplash, or powder room floor. Read more...

I know there must be a thread about this issue already but I spent quite a while searching here and the web and I can't find a conclusive answer. I laid the tile (4" travertine - unfilled) and was ready to grout. A friend mentioned that I might want to fill the natural holes with grout. My wife and I really like the natural look but I don't want to leave it unfilled if that will cause ...

Installing rough travertine in versailles pattern over concrete foundation that's been demo'd of it's existing ceramic tile. not all the original mortar has been hacked off and the plan is to install over it. what is the best mortar for this situation? i've looked at mapei's ultraflex2 and custom building ...

I\'ve read numerous posts about cleaning travertine showers with blue Dawn. However, I\'ve never done it. Can someone tell me exactly what to do? Should I dilute it and scrub? Use it straight? What scrubber is safe? I\'ve never had travertine before, so I don\'t want to hurt it. Thanks Best Regards,

I'm doing my bathroom in Travertine with little to no grout lines. I would like to apply the StoneTech Enhancer Pro sealer to enrich the color. I would also like to apply two coats to make sure it's sealed very well since it also encompasses the shower. Should I grout before the first coat or after? If I grout after the first coat, how long should I wait? Online the sealer says...

Hey guys - I'm beyond confused. I've used the deflection calculator to run numbers on my sub floor in preperation for 12 x 12 travertine tiles. 2x10 double studs (nailed and liquid nailed together), doug fir, 12 foot span joist, 10 inch OC, 3/4 inch plywood. The deflection calculator is giving me a good number for the travertine. So that should be it...BUT... I keep reading ...

Upgrades throughout...raised Asian garden and extensive hardscaping and landscaping (entire yard raised nearly 3 feet inside retaining wall), travertine floors, marble bathrooms and laundry rooms, custom granite througout kitchen, window coverings and more. There is no sales history on this home. The current owners are the original owners. The home is priced below comp sales in the neighborhood...

Granite does need to be sealed just like any stone, however, it's not as porous as marble, travertine or limestone. Sealing granite once and forgetting about it doesn't work. It's impossible. Sealers dissipate eventually, some a lot quicker than others. Get a good one. Cheap silicone sealers are worthless...in two months, you'll need to reseal. If these are food preparing surfaces, the use of a ...

The people that installed the travertine floor in our bathroom did not use mastic to apply the backerboard to the subfloor. I did make them level the floor first, (which they balked at), before putting down the backerboard. Since that time, I have read more, and am wondering if it might be a problem that they only screwed the backerboard in, instead of applying it with mastic. Is this going to be...

I was looking for opinions on whether I should try and do a countrasting center island counter in the middle of my kitchen. The island is going to be 10' by 3' and done in a distressed maple. The floor is a golden travertine. The periphery cabinets are in a medium cherry and topped with yellow Nile Silestone. My backsplash is going to be a creamy/yellow Brittany & Coggs design. I am going for...
