I am fixing up an older f/g bass boat. The transom is rotten and I have to replace. Anybody know what would be the best type of wood to use? Thought about cypress but not sure. It's kindof a softer wood but, would withstand the water. Any help appreciated, thanks.

I have a c.1960 Boston Whaler 13-footer that is in the process of striping down now and re-painting. I see guys who re-do these boats [and] raise [the] transom [four inches]. Why? Is a 20-inch shaft on a new motor [too] long to leave [the transom height on a c.1960 Boston Whaler 13-footer in] original [condition]?

The transom is plywood sandwiched between two sheets of aluminum. I am thinking about replacing the plywood with a frame made of stainless square tubing. Good or bad idea?

I am working on creating a door familiy, single door frame with a transom and I want to lock the frame width for the transom. I do not want to clutter the familiy with dimensions so I want to dimension the millions in sketch mode so they do not appear while out of sketch mode. When I dimension in sketch mode, the dimension appears, but it is faded in color, and when I exit sketech mode, the...

This winter I [may] re-power a 1987 Whaler 27 Center Console Cuddy. I believe the [specified transom height calls] for 25-inch shafts. But I have a line on some left over E-TEC engines with 30-inch shafts. [Seeks others with] experience using jack plates on [a Whaler 27 Center Console Cuddy]. Any advice appreciated. New member on a great resource.

Surrendered to the weather and went to put my boat away today. Got there and found this massive turd just inside the transom area. First I thought it may be human as there's a night club across the street and who knows...marina folks think it was a very large raccoon. Lots of berry seeds Holy crap. How the f did it climb aboard?

Can 6 oz cloth be used with polyester resin for cosmetic repairs to fiberglass without the use of matt first? I replaced my transom and found about 25 holes from previous motors that I filled in but I am afraid with filler in so many spots it may crack when I put the jack plate on so I was thinking about covering it with 6 oz cloth but I don't want to build up the area in depth.

Need some advice on rebuilding / repairing strakes, that in a 4 foot section are high and low ( I mean 1/4 - 3/8"). I have the pad flat length ways & side to side. Strakes have a pretty high spot aprox 3/8" tall @ 2 ft from transom. Both strakes on both sides and hull also. Boat is only 13ft long, ( High-Tide Boats, BUG-BUSTER) so I think that 4-5 foot from the transom should be enough to ...

The only practical difference is that with PT you do not have to give special treatment to through hull holes. On the other hand, the non-PT will have much better adhesion with the resin if you use epoxy. Speaking of which if you really want the FG to bond to the wood, you should use epoxy. Polyester resin (the common FG resin) does not really bond to the wood. I've done this several times,...
