I know this topic comes up every so often and I happened to have the three transmissions sitting in the garage while I was bored. Using my cheapy bathroom scale that I use to get rough estimates of shipping large parts this is what I came up with: 020=68lb 02A=85lb 02M=112lb

I prefer manual transmissions as I feel more in control of my car. Plus, they are cheaper to buy and cheaper to fix. Unfortunately they seem to be going away thanks to the lazy people who cannot drive a stick. I have owned 1 automatic transmission in my life. The rest were manuals.

Been looking at the new chevys alot lately and i just may go buy one brand new. My question is with the transmissions. In the half tons, are they still running the 4l60e? and in the 3/4 are they running 4l80e? I would probably end up getting a 3/4ton with the 6.0l or half ton with the 5.3l. Any of the new ones extra problematic? Seem to have heard something like a 6l90e? Thanks dudes!

I finely found the trans builder in Michigan I was thinking about. Has anybody worked with these guys? I just want a mild trans, I think a bts is too much for me to afford to matter how much I would like to have one right now, so that is not an option. Or has anyone know of a good trans place in mi. thanks Joe

How well do they handle power? Do we loose a lot of power from the crank to the wheels? Also, what is about the limit of TQ and HP to be putting on the 4r70w? Thats what I have right? I'm just wondering, it's still in the planning stage and I just wanna know what I need to save for and what will be alright for the time being.

Ok I did a when your van gave up the ghost thread, how about trannies. I know the auto's seem to be known as a weak spot so to speak. What did your trannies do/sound like when they died? Currently mine has 197,000 with no work done to it ever (tranny) as in no fluid or filter changes, nothing, has never used fluid. This is a new van (to me) but I now the original owner and know it was taken ...

So I'm turning 16 in a few months and my parents are willing to buy me a car (yeah!). I wanted to get a manual, but my dad and his crazy reasons says I can't get one. He said I that could get a car with one of those semi-automatic transmissions that you can use (the ones where you just hit up (+) or down (-) to shift). So my question is: what are some cars to look in to that have this? We're ...
