I'm strongly considering getting a waggy for my next vehicle. Mostly as kind of a DD, partly as a tow rig for my XJ once I start building it. Also trying to find out what year they stopped offering the 401.

Dear Honda, we could really use a higher towing capacity on the Element, at least to pull a decent size pop-up trailer, Teardrops are not for everyone.

Interesting question. What was the towing capacity of cars in the 1950's? I mean could I tow 7500lbs? What would determine this? Obviously, the 50's is an era well before my time, so I am not sure what was common back then. Thanks Charles

Ok guys, I've got a tech question for you... When a 2005-2007 F-550 with an automatic transmission is equipped with the High Capacity Trailer Towing Package, what mechanical changes set the package apart from an F-550 without this option? I know the GCWR jumps from 26,000 lbs. to 33,000 lbs. and the axle ratio is a 4.88:1 limited slip ratio, but what else is there? Springs, shocks, tranny ...

Not real sure about that year, but my 03 F450 has a Dana 135 rear axle, 4.30 gears, square axle tubes, not normal for the F450, but it being a construction company truck I figure they upgraded to the heaviest package they could get and still be classified as a 450...

I have an 06 DC 2wd, and I occassionally haul a boat/trailer that weighs approx 3200 lbs with no problems. The biggest haul I have done was a uhaul car trailer w/ a 99 audi a4 quattro on it. According the specs on the trailer and car, the whole thing weighed between 5500 and 5600 lbs. I hauled it several hundred miles from VA beach to Staunton, VA, then...

It is a 1/2 ton, somewhat short wheelbase vehicle, I would think 5k to 6k would be about max. I have towed much more than that and I don't recommend it. The 401 was last used in 1978.

I've got a 1999 Z71 'Classic' w/260HP 5.7L Vortec and tow package. Tow's my rig great, I figure 5000K loaded. Driven south to the gulf a few time with a Lund in tow, always got me there and back, around 10mpg towing. I have a typical Class3 Reese style hitch. -------------------- 2007 Stingray 230LX 6.2L Bravo I

I hate to beat a dead horse, but since I can find little on this subject, I just want to clarify. I have a 2008 Pat, FWD, Limited. Current towing capacity of 1000lbs. From what I understand, the "prep tow package" that you get when you buy a Patriot includes both the cooler and a harness. What I see on this forum, is that only the cooler is required. Is that correct? I will be ...
