I'm new to the site and so far have found alot of good info. I am working on designing a torsion bar to hold a tow bar of a trailer up. The tow bar pivots about two pins and I need a torsion bar set up to hold the tow bar in a level position when not hooked up. What I'm needing is a little help calculating the size of my torsion bar. I have it modeled as a hex shaft. The coupling is 7" ...

Has anyone had experience with Roadmaster's All Terrain tow bar? I'm sure it probably releases its auto lock easily under all conditions, but does it prevent the binding of the disconnect pins when not straight and level? I have one of their regular tow bars and even after getting the auto lock released, the pins are sometimes impossible to remove by hand. Does the all terrain solve ...

I've got a Frabil Preditor and am in need of a tow bar! Bought the shanty last year and towed it using rope and buy does that suck! Any suggestions? anyone? How about details or plans on how to make one? Anyone fabricate their own? I've looked at the frabil manufactured ones and they seem really chincy... looking to hear what anyone's got for suggestions! thanks JON

Note - this is about installing a tow bar ON the smart car so it can be towed behind a motorhome; not a smart towing something else. My husband and I finished installing the Blue Ox tow plate on the smart and it took 2 1/2 days from start to finished wiring. Its not THAT hard, it just takes a lot of fussing around to get things in the right place. I do think the tow plate is 10% too large ...

QUOTE (Steved44 @ Nov 9 2009, 05:09 PM) Yeah, that waving stuff is hard on a person. I got tired (and tennis elbow) waving back at all those saguaro cacti Our Chevy Trailblazer steering wheel does not lock when you take the key out, so no problem there. I just back until the hitch arms lock, or if the motorhome is at too much of an angle, drive it foreward a few feet ...
