To date, I've always used clip-on aero bars for du's, tri's and the rare TT. I'm now looking to buy a dedicated tri/TT bike and common sense tells me I should be looking for something with a shorter top tube, since the seat tube angle will be about 78 degrees vs. the more typical road angle of 73-74 degrees. Am I correct? If so, about how much shorter should I be looking for? I know, I ...

I'm toying with taking the plunge on a SS 29er. The Gary Fisher Rig is on the short list - hard to ignore the spec. My current ride is a L 5 Spot with a 23.6 top tube. The GF site lists the M Rig as a 23.6 top tube - seems like a no brainer. The L is listed at 24.5 We put a tape measure on a M and a L.....the M is 23.0 and the L is 24.0, and yes, we measured the effective tt ...

What are your thoughts on top tube length and ride quality? Looking at all of the different mountain bikes you see some differences of 1/4" to almost 3/4" differences in top tube lengths for a large frame. I prefer my bikes to have a balance of efficiency and responsive handling. Can these differences be customized with different sized stems and fore/aft seat adjustments? How do you think ...

In short I buckled the TT on one of our frames 2 weekends ago and wanted to get your thoughts about it. Longer story. I flew to Phoenix for a 12 hr bike race. My host is a friend of mine who owns one of our earlier bikes. It happens to fit me fairly well so I rode it in the 12 hr race. On the 3rd lap I decided to take an "alternate" line over a small ridge. As I crested the rigde ...

Hello RC BFers. My Alu frame has started to creak unexplainably. It's starting to sound like a pair of old knees. I don't think it's coming from the BB area, it's coming from the top of the bike somewhere. I can make it creak by standing next to the bike, holding the saddle and the stem, and either pushing them away from each other or pushing...

Hello, I posted this in Road Cycling but I think it would be better suited here. I think my frame has a crack in it. When I push down vertically in the middle of my TT, it creaks. It also happens when I push the saddle + handlebars towards each other, or away from each other, or when I vigorously twist the saddle. It's a...

I have a wedge bag under my seat to carry misc repair gear, spare tire, etc' and there's a little room left for a couple of GU packets. I was riding last weekend and saw a guy with one of these top tube bags and struck up a conversation with him. He loved the bag there. He was carrying his cell phone, money, Id and a couple of power bars in it....

Maybe its just the low top tube and high chainstay that's making it look funky. I'd say push the top tube up and put a normal chainstay for 2012 to make it look normal.
