Since the tires are different sizes front/rear, has anyone had their tires rotated side to side, which involves removing the tires from the wheels and re-mounting on the opposite wheel? If, so has the dealer covered the cost for you under regular maintenance?

Learned a lesson today. My tire inflation warning light came on and said I had over 50 pounds of pressure in my rear tire. I had just had them rotated. Learned that the tires have to be "relearned" into the computer once they are rotated. Each tire has a sensor in it and when you rotate the tires, the computer doesn't know this has happened. How often are the tires on the Smart supposed to be rotated? The interval is not stated in the owners manual. I read in a thread that some suggest not even rotating but I don't know... Anyone know the correct answer.

I have a 4X4 Tundra and have a quick question. For you guys that do your own tire rotations, do you rotate your tires front to back always keeping the same tires on the same side of the truck, or do you rotate in an "X" (criss-cross) pattern? I've read where some recommend that you criss-cross the tires on a 4WD vehicle. Does it really make any difference, especially if you have normal wear ...

I had my tires rotated and high speed balanced at the dealer two weeks ago after 15,000 miles, and on the ride home noticed a new "humming" road noise and felt a slight "scraping". I thought this might be the tires adjusting to a new wear pattern, but it has persisted and my gas mileage has dropped by 10%. I decided to rotate my tires last night, partialy due to the fact that I was about due to and to the fact that winter finally showed up(in all its icey glory). It went well for the most part, considering I only had a floor jack and the lug wrench that comes with the car. I rotate all five because I don't want to have an old, dried-out spare that isn't reliable. With the all-tire rotation, they all reach the end of the tread life at the same time and when it's time for new tires all of them are the same tread pattern, which I prefer, particularly on our full-time 4WDs. I can't think of a reason that I would not use a six-tire rotation pattern if I had another ...
