I'm planning to changing out the valve stem seals on my 2003 Camry and I have a question about the timing chain. Do I need to worry about the chain slipping off the crankshaft timing gear and screwing up the timing? I'm planning on using the "rope" trick since I don't have access to a compressor. If anyone has any pointers that could help me with this job, I would appreciate them. Thanks, ...

I am looking for somewhere reasonably close to Tysons Corner area (Dont mind driving a little ways) that also works with aftermarket warranty company. My B6 S4 needs to have the timing chain replaced, it is causing random misfire codes that is causing my CEL to come on. Thanks. Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!

I am in the middle of doing a H/C swap. I go and remove the stock timing chain and notice that the crank sprocket is one piece along with the piece that spins the oil pump. I remembered and verified that my adjustable Cloyes set only has both sprockets and chain. What am I supposed to do here? Am I supposed to buy a seperate oil pump gear? Thanks for the help!

When I cranked up the 95 today after putting a new radiator in I kept hearing this almost knock type of noise. Had 60 pounds of oil pressure. It wasn't a steady knock and it would go away when brought off idle. I only noticed it doing it when the engine would stumble a little bit because my idle is a little shakey on cold start with the hot cam and all. I got under it and it sounded like it ...

Well I think I narrowed my issues down to a particular spot. Unfortunately I think it has to do with the passenger side timing chain and or cam chain. I read de-marko's thread about his timing chain teardown and a lot of it sounds the same . If anyone read my thread about the P0174 code, this new problem is the next step after trying to fix those problems and nothing working. P0174, ...

Can anyone tell me how difficult it is to dive into replacing my idle air control valve and timing chain on a 95 Maxima? I need to do this very soon, I'm just wondering what I'm getting myself into. Any tips would be appreciated.

Finally came to the conclusion that my 2004 S4's knocking noise at warm idle is a timing chain tensioner. Has anyone had any experience with this? A local shop suggested a thicker oil may help the noise and the problem will not likely get worse. Does this seem resopnable or is it just wishfull thinking? Pulling the engine and replacing tensioners is about $5000. The car has ...

Recently I had to replace the timing chain and head valves, after rebulilding both head valves, I installed the timing chaing just like the book say, the same thing I did with the camshaft marks, everything was looking good until a frien of mine told me that I had to rotate the enginne to verify the timing, so I did and after God only now how many turn of the crankshaft, the colored links on the ...

The timing chain broke in my 2002 Explorer that has the big 4.0l engine. My question was if anyone knows if there is a cheap fix for this as far as replacing the chain or is it a valve bender and I would prolly be better off just replacing the whole engine.

Can anyone tell me, if when the 98 sl2 1.9 dohc timing chain breaks will it bend the valves?? Im dont really want to tear into the engine and replace if all im gonna have to do is replace the thing and head also with valve job and everything. Might be better off getting a new motor if that is the case. I know the chain is snapped.

My 90 SDV won't run and I suspect the timing chain has jumped. It has been running poorly on and off for the last few months and now it won't start. I have fuel, spark and it appears compression (it's had to turn by hand with a 24mm wrench) but it backfires thru the throttle. I pulled the dist cap and the rotor points closer to 8 than 1 with the crank at TDC. Also, the crank turns 12-15 ...

I survived and so did the car! With much anxiety and trembling, I dove into my most agressive car repair ever this Thanksgiving weekend: the timing chain. Symptoms were classic, that light dieseling sound. Car only has 105k miles, but I think a previous owner wasn't too good about regular oil changes at some point. Sure enough, the tensioner was a bit more than 1/2" extended, beyond the ...

Came across this thread and figured I'd leave my two cents as some seem up in arms over the chains/guides failing. First off timing chains are known for their ruggedness and will outlast a belt 2-3 times over. As the engine ages from wear and tear you'll start to hear a "clicking" noise. First during cold starts and eventually it'll get to the point where they make noise ALL the time....

The shop, CarX in St. Louis, didn't replace the tty bolts when the PO had the timing belt done. It turned out they fu-bar several things, one of which was stripping the engine mounts b/c they didn't replace those bolts then torqued them in with an impact wrench. __________________ For Sale : 82 Diesel Rabbit with Performance IP . http://pics.tdiclub.com...

Yeah i was quoted by NGP a local shop my way 900 parts and labor. they did recommend doing a clutch and flywheel at the same time. but even a nice clutch and flywheel shouldnt put you no more than 1500-1800 i would assume.
