I also have Arctic Silver 5, and which do you think will be a better thermal compound to use? Also, as with Intel Quads, the line method of applying the thermal compound was thought to be better to use (highly discussed however..), and I'm wondering if the same...

The HSF i just bought comes with compound pre-applied on it, much like my CPUs stock HSF (This: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8 2E16835186134). Should I still buy some thermal compound and apply some myself or would the pre applied compound suffice? If I should apply some on my own can I use antiseptic alcohol swabs (70%) to remove the compound off my CPU?

if just to remove what is visible then tissue paper also can but to dissolve the microscopic thermal paste that filled the gaps well you need something stronger.

Re: Modding the Tx1000 part 1 (changing the thermal compound) hello everyone; Past 2 weeks I decided to fix my Tx1230la laptop. So, I read a lot on the internet. then, i arrived here and put in my mind all those tips to fix my temperatures problem. so, I did the cleaning of the paint, use arctic silver 5 and finally use a cupper plaque...
First, why are you going to change the thermal compound? Second, yes, you can. Third, because you need to completely disassemble the laptop, it should void the warranty. But you can always ask. Just don't be surprised when they say, "Yes."
