thanks a bunch mysoul for the reply. when I run the defrag, the window says it is defraging file system NTFS and it tells me the capacity is >32.96 GB......free space is >22.28 GB and % free space is 67% which I am guessing will be the percentage of free space I will gain after defragmenting. the screen that shows up when the defrag crashes tells me I can try to disable or remove any new ...

1) Enable 48bit LBA access via bios if it's not enabled. 2) Use the XP disk tool or any 3rd party Partition software to check the partition size and then resize or recreate it or create a new partition with the missing freespace accordingly. Beware of possible data loss depending on the tool used.

However if you are not comfortable doing it it,Please start a new post on this forum,give your pc's brand and model number,and exactly what you want done. İ'll keep an eye on your post when i can.
