I just finished Haneke's 'The White Ribbon', and it is one of the best films I've seen all year. Amazing performances, top notch directing, and a freakin amazing ending. 4.5/5, #2 on my list of best films of the year. FYC: Rachel Weisz, The Lovely Bones

Yes- Whilst I haven't seen all that many 2009 films, it would be hard to beat The White Ribbon. As for The Sight and Sound poll, it was quite unusual and diverse) once again, but it's made me really want to see The Hurt Locker and A Prophet. "Oh, it's more than a hobby. A hobby should pass the time, not fill it."

I saw this movie almost two months ago and it has continued to haunt me. I actually have swapped it out with A Serious Man for my favorite movie of the year after some rumination. There is just so much going on, the ideas are so rich and vivid, the technical mastery is astonishing, and the acting is so powerful. This is definitely 2009's masterpiece.
