I don't recall getting octagon bokeh before, and I'm not sure how I would get it again, unless it has to do with shooting christmas lights. Any thoughts? Both, along with all the variants mentioned above....Theres no such thing as a silver bullet, IMO. Just put yourself in as many situations as possible, and practice both methods as much as possible and i'm sure you'll get better.
